What is REM and RAM sleep?

Different forms of sleep are frequently categorised in psychiatry and the study of sleep disorders based on numerous traits and phases of the sleep cycle. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep and Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM) sleep are the two basic kinds. There are other steps that can be added to each of these categories. Here is a summary:

Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM) Sleep:

Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep:

Rapid eye movements, increased brain activity, and vivid dreams are hallmarks of REM sleep. More intense mental and emotional processing is frequently linked to it. Throughout the night, NREM sleep and REM sleep alternate. REM sleep is frequently referred to as “paradoxical sleep” since the brain is active while the body remains largely paralysed. Heart rate and respiration speed up during REM sleep, making it simpler to wake someone up.
